The Mouse and Thunder

I came across this story in a regular old Google search and boy is it cute! It's a selection from Early Childhood Themes Through the Year by Debbie Thompson and it's available (mostly) on Google Books.

The story is basically this:

Once there was a mouse who was afraid of thunder and all the other mice made fun of her because of it, which made her pretty sad.

One day, the mouse went for a long walk on a hot day. Before long, she became very thirsty and wanted a drink of water.

Just then - it began to THUNDER! And the mouse became frightened. But - she came across a frog. The frog said, "Oh! Thunder! Now my pond won't dry up! Hooray!"

Then she came across a duck. The duck said, "Oh! Thunder! Mud is nice! I like mud! Hooray!"

"Hmm..." said the mouse, "the frog likes thunder...and the duck likes thunder...?? I know! When it thunders, it usually rains too. And rain is good! And if it rains...I will have a drink of water because I am so thirsty!"

And it did rain, and the mouse was able to get her drink of water. And she was never afraid of the thunder again!  The End!!

We played the story up with lots of Hoorays and applause to keep the kids on track.

Craft:

This week we pulled an oldie from the library files and made a Mouse Mask. This was one of our crafts that was had the summer volunteers prep for us so No Cutting! Unfortunately, that means any identifying marker was lost - so I have no idea where it came from exactly. But - it was cute nonetheless!!
